IRVING, Texas – Tulane men’s basketball player Sion James has been named the Chair of the American Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for a second straight year as the conference announced its 2023-24 SAAC Executive Board.
 
James, who enters his senior year at Tulane in 2023-24, will once again serve as The American’s representative to the NCAA Division I SAAC, which reports directly to the NCAA Division I Council. One of only 32 student-athletes on the NCAA Division I SAAC, James became the first men’s basketball player and the first student-athlete from Tulane to serve as The American’s national representative in 2022-23.
 
Madelyn Fox of Temple women’s rowing will serve as Coordinator of Student-Athlete Engagement, while Jack Kersey of the Memphis rifle program will be Coordinator of Alumni Engagement. North Texas women’s swimming and diving’s Saylor Hawkins will be Coordinator of Community Engagement, Tulane women’s track and field athlete Brenda Ellis will be Coordinator of Media Relations and Raelyn Roberson of SMU women’s track and field will be Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion.
 
The American Student-Athlete Advisory Committee serves as the voice of student-athletes who represent the conference’s 15 member institutions. The mission of the conference SAAC is to improve communication for all student-athletes at each member school and enhance communication between the institutions. SAAC takes an active role in understanding and providing feedback regarding NCAA and American Athletic Conference legislation and promotes student-athlete well-being, academic achievement, personal development and community service.
