Rice's McCaffrey Makes 'Crazy-Good Play of the Week'

Pop-Tarts “Crazy Good” Play of the Week

09.14.23

Rice wide receiver Luke McCaffrey's one-handed, 32-yard touchdown reception from JT Daniels against Houston on Saturday night has been selected as the Pop-Tarts "Crazy Good" Play of the Week by the Football Writers of American in conjunction with Florida Citrus Sports and the Pop-Tarts Bowl.

McCaffrey's grab pushed the Owls' lead to 21-0 against their cross-town rivals in the 42nd Bayou Bucket. McCaffrey finished the night with seven receptions for 99 yards and two touchdowns, and his final catch of the night set Rice up for the eventual winning points as the Owls captured the Bayou Bucket for the first time since 2010 with a 43-41 win in double overtime.

A select committee of FWAA members will honor one outstanding play each weekend during the regular season. Fans can nominate and vote on their favorite play through Pop-Tarts Bowl social media accounts (@PopTartsBowl).

For the rest of the season, the FWAA will announce the Pop-Tarts Crazy Good Play of the Week after the conclusion of all games each week. There will be 13 teams honored this year, running from the beginning to the end of the regular season. The winning team will receive a care package of Pop-Tarts pastries to celebrate its win. All NCAA Division I schools are eligible to be selected.

The Pop-Tarts Crazy Good Play of the Week follows Pop-Tarts entry into college football with the Pop-Tarts Bowl, organized and managed by Florida Citrus Sports.
