09.19.23

South Florida defensive back Daquan Evans has been named the Bednarik Award Player of the week after the Bulls' performance against No. 10 Alabama.

Evans’ dominant performance against the Crimson Tide included eight tackles (four solo), three sacks, four tackles for loss, and one pass breakup.

Evans was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday, becoming South Florida's first defensive honoree since 2018.

Evans enters Saturday's game against Rice as the NCAA FBS leader in tackles for loss, with 2.7 TFL per game.

Each week during the 2023 season the Maxwell Football Club will recognize outstanding performances with two weekly awards. The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense or special teams, and the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week will be honored for outstanding defensive play. Washington quarterback Michael Penix was chosen as this week's Maxwell Award Player of the Week.
