Memphis' Jones Selected in NWSL Draft

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis's Mya Jones was selected to the San Diego Wave in the third round of the 2024 NWSL Draft late Friday night. Jones became the first Tiger to be selected in the NWSL Draft.
 
Jones, a fifth-year senior out of Calgary, Alberta, finished her Tiger career with 26 goals and 27 assists in 93 matches played. Jones, a United Soccer Coaches All-South Region First Team selection and Scholar All-American, Jones was selected to the American Athletic Conference postseason awards list all five years and was named as the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Female Amateur Athlete of the Year in 2023.
 
During her final season in the Memphis Blue, Jones was honored as the AAC's Offensive Player of the Year following her nine goals and 11 assists during the regular season. Jones ended AAC play leading the conference in assists per game, points per game, total assists and total points.
 
After leading the Tigers to the first AAC West Division Championship and the team's third consecutive AAC Championship crown, Jones went on to net the team's first goal in the NCAA First Round match against LSU.
 
Jones helped lead Memphis to a 20-2 overall record during the 2023 season and a perfect 9-0 spot in American Athletic Conference play – the first women's team in the conference to finish the regular season with a perfect record.
