Charlotte Takes Down North Texas to Move Into First Place in Conference Standings

Charlotte defeated North Texas to move into first place in the American Athletic Conference men's basketball standings on Saturday, January 20.

Rice 69, Temple 66 - Box Score
PHILADELPHIA (AP) Mekhi Mason had 20 points in Rice's 69-66 win against Temple on Saturday.

Mason had seven rebounds for the Owls (7-11, 1-4 American Athletic Conference). Travis Evee added 15 points while going 4 of 9 from the floor, including 2 for 6 from 3-point range, and 5 for 6 from the line, and he also had five rebounds. Alem Huseinovic had 14 points and shot 4 for 9, including 4 for 8 from beyond the arc. The win snapped a five-game skid for the Owls.

The Owls (8-11, 1-5) were led by Hysier Miller, who posted 24 points, seven assists and three steals. William Settle added 15 points for Temple. Joran Riley also put up 12 points and eight rebounds.

UAB 69, East Carolina 61 - Box Score
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) Eric Gaines scored 17 points as UAB beat East Carolina 69-61 on Saturday.

Gaines also added seven rebounds and eight assists for the Blazers (12-6, 4-1 American Athletic Conference). Javian Davis scored 14 points and added nine rebounds. Christian Coleman was 3 of 6 shooting and 4 of 4 from the free throw line to finish with 10 points.

Ezra Ausar finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Pirates (9-10, 2-4). Brandon Johnson added 15 points and 10 rebounds for East Carolina. RJ Felton also had 10 points and two steals.

SMU 103, Tulsa 70 - Box Score
DALLAS (AP) Chuck Harris and Zhuric Phelps both had 18 points in SMU's 103-70 victory over Tulsa on Saturday.

Harris also added six rebounds and 10 assists for the Mustangs (13-5, 4-1 American Athletic Conference). Phelps added six rebounds and three steals. Samuell Williamson went 7 of 14 from the field to finish with 15 points.

The Golden Hurricane (10-8, 1-5) were led in scoring by PJ Haggerty, who finished with 19 points and two steals. Tulsa also got 15 points, nine rebounds and two blocks from Jared Garcia. Cobe Williams also put up 12 points, five assists and two steals.

Charlotte 56, North Texas 44 - Box Score
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Lu'Cye Patterson had 20 points in Charlotte's 56-44 win against North Texas on Saturday night.

Patterson was 8 of 19 shooting (4 for 7 from 3-point range) for the 49ers (11-7, 5-1 American Athletic Conference). Igor Milicic Jr. scored 13 points, going 4 of 7 from the floor, including 2 for 5 from 3-point range, and 3 for 3 from the line. Nik Graves went 4 of 7 from the field to finish with nine points.

Aaron Scott finished with 13 points, six rebounds and two steals for the Mean Green (11-6, 4-1). Jason Edwards added 11 points, six rebounds and two steals for North Texas. C.J. Noland also put up 10 points. The loss ended a six-game winning streak for the Mean Green.
