Tulsa earned a penalty with only one minute remaining, and senior Camilo Vargas converted to lift the Hurricane to a 2-1 victory over Florida Atlantic on Friday night.
 
Tulsa improves to 2-7-1 on the season and 1-2 in The American play after snapping a six-game winless streak and four-game losing skid. FAU (2-4-3, 0-2-1) continues to search for its first win in league play and first victory over the Golden Hurricane ever.
 
After Tulsa took the lead early in the second half, the Owls returned serve to equalize in the 64^th. On Sunday, Tulsa was tied 1-1 before allowing two late goals. This time, the Hurricane kept the pressure on FAU, leading to the penalty and match winner. 
 
Gijs Hovius scored his first Tulsa goal after returning from an injury that has left him on the sidelines for much of the season. It was the first time Tulsa has scored first this season. For Vargas, it was his third goal to lead the TU program.
 
Alex Lopez played all 90 in goal for the Hurricane, coming through with five saves to assist the TU defense. Alex Cunningham and Bowen McCloud each had two shots on target Friday, the other four shots on goal for Tulsa.
