UAB, Charlotte, East Carolina, Tulsa Earn Final Weekly Honors of Season

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the weekly women’s soccer honors for the final week of the regular season.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Abbey Burns, Jr., M, UAB
Burns scored a pair of goals for the Blazers in the second half to earn a 2-2 draw with North Texas on Thursday, October 31. The junior scored in the 71st and 84th minutes to help UAB earn the No. 5 seed for the American Women’s Soccer Championship.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Abby Sowa, Sr., D/M, East Carolina
Sowa led the Pirate defense to a 2-1 win over Rice to earn the No. 3 seed in the Championship. The Pirates allowed four shots on goal, while the senior also converted a penalty kick in the 20th minute.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Emma Wakeman, Gr., Charlotte
Wakeman recorded four saves and a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over Temple on Wednesday, October 30, that clinched a berth in the Championship for the 49ers.
 
Freshman of the Week
Blaine Schutte, F, Tulsa
Schutte scored the game-tying goal for the Golden Hurricane in the 84th minute of a 1-1 draw with No. 19 Memphis to punch Tulsa’s ticket to the Championship.
 
Honorable Mention
Evie Craven, So., F, Charlotte
Craven scored the lone goal for the 49ers in the 29th minute of a 1-0 shutout of Temple on Wednesday.
 
Sierra Lowery, Gr., D, East Carolina
Lowery scored in the 59th minute in a 2-1 win over Rice to clinch the No. 3 seed for the Pirates.
 
Ai Kitagawa, Fr., F, Memphis
Kitagawa scored the Tigers’ lone goal in the 72nd minute of a 1-1 draw with Tulsa that clinched the outright regular season title for Memphis.
 
Devyn Flannery, Gr., F, North Texas
Flannery scored the second Mean Green goal in the 66th minute of a 2-2 draw with UAB on Thursday.
 
Sasjah Dade, Sr., D, UTSA
Dade scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute of a 2-1 win over Florida Atlantic on Thursday.
