South Florida Defeats East Carolina to Move into Tie for First Place

South Florida won its sixth consecutive conference game and moved into a tie for first place in the American Athletic Conference men's basketball standings.

South Florida 71, East Carolina 60 - Box Score
GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Chris Youngblood scored 20 points and South Florida beat East Carolina 71-60 on Wednesday night.

Youngblood also had six assists for the Bulls (14-5, 7-1 American Athletic Conference). Kasean Pryor scored 14 points and added 11 rebounds. Selton Miguel also had 14 points. The Bulls picked up their sixth straight win.

Cam Hayes led the way for the Pirates (11-11, 4-5) with 14 points and three steals. East Carolina also got 13 points, three steals and two blocks from RJ Felton.

South Florida took the lead with 18:49 to go in the first half and never looked back. The score was 40-28 at halftime, with Youngblood racking up 12 points. South Florida was outscored by East Carolina in the second half by one point.

Tulsa 79, Wichita State 68 - Box Score
TULSA, Okla. (AP) PJ Haggerty scored 23 points as Tulsa beat Wichita State 79-68 on Wednesday night.

Haggerty made 14 of 14 free throws for the Golden Hurricane (12-8, 3-5 American Athletic Conference). Cobe Williams shot 7 for 13 (3 for 7 from 3-point range) and 4 of 5 from the free throw line to add 21 points. Tyshawn Archie shot 4 for 8, including 2 for 3 from beyond the arc to finish with 10 points.

The Shockers (9-12, 1-7) were led in scoring by Colby Rogers, who finished with 13 points. Wichita State also got 12 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals from Harlond Beverly. In addition, Dalen Ridgnal had 11 points.

Rice 74, Memphis 71 - Box Score
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) Mekhi Mason led Rice with 17 points and Travis Evee secured the victory with a 3-pointer with 48 seconds left as the Owls took down Memphis 74-71 on Wednesday night.

Keanu Dawes added two free throws following Evee's 3 to stretch Rice's lead to 70-65 with 28 seconds remaining. Memphis pulled to 71-69 on Jahvon Quinerly's jumper with nine seconds left. Dawes sealed it with two free throws.

Mason shot 7 for 10, including 2 for 3 from beyond the arc for the Owls (8-13, 2-6 American Athletic Conference). Dawes was 3-of-5 shooting, including 2 for 4 from 3-point range, and went 7 for 10 from the line to add 15 points. Anthony Selden had 14 points and shot 5 of 12 from the field and 4 for 6 from the line.

David Jones led the way for the Tigers (15-6, 4-4) with 18 points and four steals. Memphis also got 14 points, two steals and two blocks from Malcolm Dandridge. Jaykwon Walton also had 12 points and two steals.

Dawes put up nine points in the first half for Rice, who led 33-22 at the break. Mason scored a team-high 15 points for Rice in the second half.

UAB 82, North Texas 79 (OT) - Box Score
DENTON, Texas (AP) Efrem Johnson scored 18 points, five in the overtime, as UAB knocked off North Texas 82-79 on Wednesday.

The Blazers reached overtime when Eric Gaines dumped a pass in the lane to Yaxel Lendeborg for a dunk with 1.5 seconds left to tie the game at 72.

Johnson was 6 of 13 shooting, including 3 for 7 from 3-point range, and went 3 for 4 from the line for the Blazers (14-7, 6-2 American Athletic Conference). Lendeborg scored 16 points while shooting 4 of 7 from the field and 8 for 8 from the line, and added 10 rebounds. Javian Davis shot 6 of 7 from the field and 4 for 4 from the line to finish with 16 points.

The Mean Green (12-8, 5-3) were led by Jason Edwards, who recorded 31 points and two steals. Aaron Scott added 20 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for North Texas. C.J. Noland also had 17 points.
