IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the first week of the regular season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jacob Jenkins-Cowart, Jr., OF, East Carolina
Jenkins-Cowart hit .500 (6-for-12) with six runs scored, five runs driven in and five extra base hits as the Pirates swept Rider to open the season. The junior had a double in each game and homered in the opening game and the series finale.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Chandler Welch, Jr., Tulane
Welch opened his season earning the win over Northwestern on Saturday. The junior pitched five innings and only allowed one hit with no walks and 10 strikeouts.
HONOR ROLL
Colin Daniel, So., P, UAB
Daniel tossed eight scoreless innings in a 3-0 win over Kennesaw State, allowing four hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
Jake Smallwood, Gr., C, UAB
Smallwood hit .545 (6-for-11) with two runs scored as the Blazers earned a series win over Kennesaw State.
Connor Rasmussen, So., INF, Tulane
Rasmussen helped lead the Green Wave to a series win over Northwestern by hitting .444 (4-for-9) with three runs scored, seven RBI and one home run.
Camden Johnson, Fr., INF, Wichita State
Johnson opened the season by hitting .533 (8-for-15) with four runs scored and seven runs driven in as the Shockers earned a series win over Little Rock
Daniel Zang, So., P, Wichita State
Zang earned the win on Saturday against Little Rock, through six score less innings with eight strikeouts and only three hits allowed with two walks.
