Women’s Basketball Defeats UTSA on the Road, Moves into Sole Possession of First Place in AAC

The Temple Women's Basketball team (16-10, 10-4 The American) defeated the UTSA Roadrunners (13-12, 7-7 The American), 56-48, on the road at the Convocation Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Three Owls scored in double figures, led by Tiarra East with 18 points. With Temple's win over UTSA and North Texas' loss to Charlotte last night, the Owls stand in sole possession of first place in the American Athletic Conference.

The Owls were stellar in offensive rebounding, holding a 22-10 advantage over the Roadrunners. Today's game against UTSA marked the fifth straight game, and the sixth game out of the last seven, that the Owls have outscored their opponents in the second quarter. Temple has won those quarters by an average of 11.3 points during that span. With Nelson's 11 points tonight, she has now scored in double figures in five of her last six games. Likewise, East's 18 points marked her fifth double-digit scoring effort in the team's last six outings. Denise Solis set a new season high in rebounds with eight, and tied her season high in points with four.
