No. 3 James Madison and Cinicnnati extended their respective winning streaks Sunday as the Dukes pulled away in the second half against Albany while the Bearcats went on the road to handle Butler.
JAMES MADISON 21, ALBANY 12
HARRISONBURG, Va. – No. 3 James Madison used a second-half surge to defeat Albany 21-12 at Sentara Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Dukes (5-0) had three players register hat tricks for the fifth consecutive game and eight different goal scorers to post their second consecutive game with 20 or more goals. JMU outshot Albany (0-5) by a 33-24 margin and caused 11 turnovers to the Great Danes' seven.
Attackers Katelyn Morgan and Maddie Epke led the Dukes scoring efforts with five goals each, while Kacey Knobloch tallied her second hat trick of the season. Knobloch led the team in assists with four while Epke added two and Taylor Marchetti and Morgan notched one each.
Defensively, the Dukes were led by Ava Bleckley, Nicholle Marshall and Courtney Quirk. Quirk led the team with three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Bleckley secured three ground balls and a caused turnover and Marshall caused three turnovers and picked up a ground ball.
Albany was paced by five goals from Grace McCauley, a hat trick and two assists from Katie Pascale and two goals and three assists from Bryar Hogg. Pascale also led on the defensive side of the ball with three ground balls and a caused turnover.
The Great Danes had a slight edge in the draw circle with 19 draw controls to JMU's 18. Pascale and Epke both secured 11 draw controls each for their respective teams while Bleckley recorded four draw controls for the Dukes for the second consecutive game.
CINCINNATI 17, BUTLER 4
INDIANAPOLIS – The Cincinnati lacrosse team claimed a 17-4 victory over Butler on Sunday.
The Bearcats (3-2) have now won three straight, outscoring their last three opponents 49-8.
Sophomore attacker Camryn Callaghan has recorded a hat trick in four of the Bearcats' last five games. She finished with five goals, one assist, nine shots and one groundball.
Cincinnati started off hot with senior Lauren Ottensmeyer scoring four goals, all within the first quarter, giving UC an 8-2 lead.
Senior Elizabeth Murphy provided assistance to five of the Bearcats' 17 goals, a new career-high. Junior Kylie Gioia picked up three goals, one shy of her career-high.
Freshman Lilly Stelzer contributed to UC's success by securing her first collegiate goal at the 3:17 mark of the fourth quarter.
On the defensive side, graduate student Dani Mlkvy grabbed five draw controls and two ground balls. Graduate student goalkeeper Victoria Macres registered six saves with a .600 save percentage.
