East Carolina's Cunningham and Root Earn Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the second week of the regular season.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Carter Cunningham, Sr., INF, East Carolina
Cunningham hit .417 (8-for-17) with six runs scored, five RBI, two doubles and a home run in four games last week for the Pirates, including a series win over then-No. 15 North Carolina. In Saturday’s win over the Tar Heels in Fayetteville, the senior went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, while in Sunday’s series clincher, he had a home run, two runs scored and a pair of RBI.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Zach Root, So., East Carolina
Root pitched seven scoreless innings against No. 15 North Carolina in a neutral-site game in Fayetteville on Saturday. The sophomore recorded seven strikeouts of Tar Heel batters with only three hits allowed and zero walks.
 
HONOR ROLL
Brandon Stahlman, Sr., INF, Charlotte
Stahlman hit .368 (7-for-19) with six runs, three doubles, two home runs and nine RBI in five games last week, including a four-game split with West Virginia.
 
Christian Adams, Sr., INF, Florida Atlantic
Adams hit .571 (8-14) with seven runs scored, one home run and four RBI in a sweep over Towson.
 
Brennan DuBose, Sr., C, Memphis
DuBose, hit .357 (5-for-14), with five runs scored, two home runs and six RBI in five games for the Tigers, including a series win over Bowling Green.
 
J.D. McCracken, Jr., P, Rice
McCracken pitched a complete game at Louisiana on Saturday, allowing one run on six hits with 11 strikeouts and one walk. It was the first complete game for the Owls in nearly five years.
 
Rafael Betancourt, So., UTL, South Florida
Betancourt hit .533 (8-for-15) with eight runs scored in five games for the Bulls, including a 4-game sweep of Marist. The sophomore had seven RBI in the series opener on Friday.
