IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the sixth week of the regular season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
John Montes, Sr., INF, South Florida
Montes helped lead the Bulls to a series win over Memphis and hit .400 (8-20) with six runs scored, two home runs and eight runs driven in for the week. He recorded a career-high five RBI in Saturday’s win over the Tigers, including a grand slam. The senior hit safely in all five games last week.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Ruger Riojas, So., UTSA
Riojas helped the Roadrunners earn a series win over No. 10 East Carolina with a pair of saves. On Friday night, the sophomore threw 3.0 innings with one hit and one unearned run while striking out four Pirates. In Sunday’s series-clinching win, he tossed two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts.
HONOR ROLL
Blayze Berry, Sr., P, UAB
Berry struck out 12 batters with no walks in seven innings in a 5-3 win over Wichita State on Friday night.
Mason Lytle, Jr., OF, UTSA
Lytle hit .450 (9-20) for the week with eight runs scored as UTSA earned a series win over No. 10 East Carolina. He had multiple hits in all four games played and scored multiple runs in all three games against the Pirates.
Gavin Schulz, Jr., INF, Tulane
Schulz hit .467 (7-15) with two runs scored, three doubles and four runs driven in as Tulane went 3-1, including a series win at Rice.
Chandler Welch, Jr., P, Tulane
Welch pitched eight innings while scattering seven hits and one run in the Shockers’ 10-1 win at Rice on Saturday.
Tommy LaPour, Fr., P, Wichita State
LaPour struck out nine batters in five innings while only allowing two hits with an unearned run in the series-clinching win at UAB on Sunday.
