Tulsa Advances to WBIT Quarterfinals with 73-61 Win Over Georgetown

TULSA, Okla. –– Tulsa scored the final 12 points to pull away for a 73-61 victory over the Georgetown Hoyas in WBIT second round action Sunday afternoon in front of 1,464 fans at the Donald W. Reynolds Center
 
The Golden Hurricane kept its postseason alive with its 25th win of the year for a 25-9 record, while the Hoyas closed the season with a 23-12 mark.
 
Tulsa will host quarterfinal action of the WBIT this Thursday night against the Illinois Fighting Illini with tipoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Reynolds Center. Tickets are on sale now online at TulsaHurricane.com.
 
Delanie Crawford scored a game-high 21 points, including six in Tulsa's closing run, while also adding six assist, five rebounds and four steals. Temira Poindexter added 19 points and blocked three shots, while freshmen Elise Hill and Mady Cartwright combined for 20 points. Hill had her second straight double-digit scoring game with 11 points, all coming in the first half, while all of Cartwright's nine points came from behind the arc.
 
Georgetown had four double-figure scorers, led by Kelsey Ransom's 18 points, Alex Cowan with 13 and 10 from both Graceann Bennett and Mya Bembry.
 
With the scored tied 61-61 at the 6:41 mark of the final quarter, Tulsa would score the next 12 points. Crawford's layup with 6:24 remaining put Tulsa ahead by two, 63-61, beginning the final 12-0 run to close out the game.
 
Tulsa took an 11-point lead in the first quarter when Elise Hill's three-pointer put Tulsa ahead 19-8 with 4:23 remaining on the clock. The Hurricane ended the opening quarter with a 27-20 lead.
 
In the second quarter, Georgetown got as close as one point at 38-37 with 2:20 left on the first-half clock, but the Hoyas were held scoreless from that point on. Crawford's three-pointer with 0:59 remaining pushed Tulsa's lead back to four points at intermission, 41-37. It was an even third quarter as the two teams each scored 18 points as Tulsa still held a four-point lead heading into the final frame.
 
Bennett's layup with 7:31 remaining in the contest tied the game for the first time for the Hoyas. Poindexter's 2-of-3 free throws put Tulsa back-up 61-59 before Georgetown's Bembry made a layup to make it 61-all with 6:41 remaining on the game clock. Crawford's layup 0:17 later began Tulsa's final 12-0 run to close-out the game.
