HOUSTON — Rice men's basketball fifth-year senior forward Max Fiedler was named a third-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators, the organization announced Wednesday morning.
 
He becomes just the third Owl to earn Academic All-America honors, and the first since 1995, joining Bobby Tudor (1982) and Adam Peakes (1994 and 1995).
 
A three-time Conference USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Fiedler has a 3.91 GPA while getting his MBA. He was third on the team with 9.3 points, while leading The American with 3.7 offensive rebounds per game. He was also second in the AAC in rebounds (9.3), third in field goal percentage (.663), assists (5.3) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.3), and sixth in defensive rebounds (5.5) and double-doubles (9).
 
Fiedler was one of three players in the country averaging 9.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists. He recorded 15 games with 10+ points and 15 with 10+ rebounds. Fiedler became Rice's all-time leader in rebounds (1,144), assists (571), field goal percentage (.658), assist-to-turner ratio (1.81), games played (148) and games started (135), and he is the only player in NCAA Division I history to record 1,000 career points, 1,000 rebounds, 500 assists, 100 blocks and 100 steals.
