IRVING, Texas -- Rice wide receiver Luke McCaffrey became the first American Athletic Conference player taken in the 2024 NFL Draft when he was selected by the Washington Commanders with the final pick of the third round Friday.
McCaffrey led The American with 13 touchdown receptions in 2024. He was sixth in the conference in receiving yards (76.3 yards per game) and was fourth in receptions (5.5 per game). McCaffrey had 71 catches for 992 yards.
McCaffrey led a contingent of five American Athletic Conference players who were selected by NFL teams.
