Florida Falls to Top-Ranked Northwestern in NCAA Semifinal

CARY, N.C. - Maggi Hall led all players with five goals, while Danielle Pavinelli had three goals and two assists, but it wasn't enough for Florida to hold off top-ranked Northwestern, which took a 15-11 win against the Gators in the semifinal round of the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship.

The Gators, who were making their second Final Four appearance, saw their program and American Athletic Conference-record 20-game winning streak snapped as Florida finished its season at 20-3.

Northwestern pulled away by outscoring the Gators 5-2 in the fourth quarter after holding a 10-9 lead after three periods. A lengthy weather stoppage delayed the proceedings after the third quarter, and the Wildcats struck twice in the first 2:05 of the fourth once play resumed.

To that point, neither team led by more than two goals. Florida held leads of 1-0 and 2-1, while Northwestern held a 9-7 lead in the third quarter before Hall and Pavinelli tied it for the Gators midway through the period.

Hall, who was named as an IWLCA First Team All-America selection yesterday, finished her 2024 season with an American Athletic Conference-record 119 points (65 goals, 54 assists).

Hall and Pavinelli accounted for eight of Florida's 11 goals as no other Gator player had more than one goal.

Goalie Elyse Finnelle made eight saves before yielding to Georgia Hoey, who had two stops.

Northwestern (18-2), which will face either Syracuse or Boston College Sunday for the national championship, was led by Madison Taylor, who matched Hall with five goals, while Izzy Scane added three goals and two assists.
