The Temple men's soccer team won its second match of the season as they defeated the Akron Zips 1-0 on the road from FirstEnergy Stadium in Akron, Ohio, on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Owls improved their record to 2-3-2, while the Zips dropped to 1-3-3.
Flannan Riley held his own in net, snagging nine saves through the afternoon. The mark was a career-high for Riley, surpassing his previous high of seven from his start against Penn earlier this season.
While the Temple stayed aggressive throughout, it came down to the 86th minute when Owls forward Nathan Brown drew a penalty on the Zips' goalie in a one-on-one breakaway, courtesy of a feed from Alex Champagne. Lukas Egarter took the penalty shot as he drilled it upper 90 to give TU the decisive 1-0 advantage. The Owls held on for the final four minutes to secure their first road win of the season.
