IRVING, Texas – The American Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, November 16.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cali Smallwood, Jr., G, UAB
Smallwood led the Blazers to a pair of wins over Alabama A&M and Chattanooga. She averaged 20 points per game on 63 percent from the field and an impressive 75 percent from behind the arc on 9-of-12 shooting. Again A&M, she scored 29 points, shooting 6-for-7 from deep and added five rebounds.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Sofia Munoz, G, UAB
Munoz helped facilitate two wins for the Blazers, averaging 14.5 points and 6.5 assists per game. In the win over Alabama A&M, she scored 16 points, dished out eight assists and had four steals defensively.
HONORABLE MENTION
Taylor Barner, R-Fr., G, East Carolina
Barner scored 32 points and recorded three steals in the Pirate’s win over Charleston Southern.
Aniah Alexis, So., G, Rice
Alexis recorded her first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds in the win against Middle Tennessee.
Chayenne Rowe, Sr., F, UTSA
Rowe scored a career-high 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while adding eight rebounds in the win over Texas State.
Kanija Daniel, Jr., G, Tulane
Daniel scored 20 points and grabbed five rebounds in the 77-54 win over North Florida.
Mady Cartwright, Jr., G, Tulsa
Cartwright guided Tulsa to a 75-67 win over Houston Christian with a team-high 15 points.
