IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the fourth week of the regular season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Drew Detlefsen, Jr., OF, UTSA
Detlefsen led the Roadrunners to a 4-0 week, including a win over No. 14 Texas A&M, by hitting .500 (8-16) with seven runs scored and seven runs driven in. He recorded a hit in every game and scored a run in three of the four wins, including scoring four runs in Saturday’s win over Texas Southern.
PITCHERS OF THE WEEK
Blake Gillespie, Jr., Charlotte
Gillespie recorded the second no-hitter in 49er program history on Friday, March 7 in a 5-0 shutout of James Madison. The junior struck out 11 batters with just one walk and faced the minimum amount of JMU batters.
Ethan Norby, So., East Carolina
Norby struck out an American Athletic Conference single-game record 19 batters in 7.1 innings of work against No. 24 Coastal Carolina on Friday. The sophomore’s 19 strikeouts were the most by any Division I pitcher this season. He allowed just three hits with no walks.
HONORABLE MENTION
Todd Clay, Jr., INF, UAB
Clay hit .591 (13-22) with five runs scored and six RBI as the Blazers went 4-1 on the week. He had multiple hits in four games and scored a pair of runs in two of them. In a win against No. 22 Auburn on Wednesday, he was 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Thad Ector, Sr., OF, Charlotte
Ector helped lead the 49ers to a sweep of JMU by hitting .556 (5-for-9) with four runs, two doubles and a solo home run. He had a hit in each contest, including a 3-for-4 day with three runs scored in Saturday’s 8-5 win.
Robert Orloski, So., P, UTSA
Orloski earned the win in a pair of games for the Roadrunners last week, allowing no earned runs in 8.2 innings of work. He pitched four innings with 2 unearned runs in a win over No. 14 Texas A&M on Tuesday, March 4 before tossing 4.2 innings of scoreless relief with six strikeouts in a win over Texas Southern on Sunday.
Michael Lombardi, Jr., OF/P, Tulane
Lombardi helped lead the Green Wave to a 3-1 week by hitting .429 (6-14) with three runs scored and 6 RBI from the plate while adding a save and four strikeouts in 1.2 innings from the mound.
Grant Adler, R-Sr., P, Wichita State
Adler earned the win in a 4-2 win over Missouri State on Saturday, March 8 with a 7-inning outing with 10 strikeouts against four hits and one unearned run.
