Florida Atlantic's Leroux, Tulane's Lombardi Earn Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the eighth week of the regular season.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brando Leroux, Sr., SS, Florida Atlantic
Leroux aided the Owls to a sweep at East Carolina this past weekend, the first conference sweep over the Pirates in Greenville since 2018, by hitting .533 (8-15) with three runs scored, one double, one home run and three RBI. He recorded at least two hits in three of four games last week and hit the go-ahead home run in the eighth inning on Sunday.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Michael Lombardi, Jr., Tulane
Lombardi earned two wins and a save for the Green Wave last week. Over his three appearances, the junior allowed no runs on three hits with zero walks and nine strikeouts in nine innings of work. He earned the win against Northwestern State on Wednesday with two scoreless innings before earning a save in Tulane’s series-opening win against Rice on Friday. He followed that with a 3-strikeout inning and the win in the series finale on Saturday.
 
HONORABLE MENTION
Blake Gillespie, Jr., P, Charlotte
Gillespie earned the win against Wichita State on Friday, allowing one unearned run and two walks in six innings with nine strikeouts.
 
Tyler Murphy, Jr., P, Florida Atlantic
Murphy pitched a complete game on Saturday against East Carolina, allowing one run and three hits in a 7-inning run-rule victory.
 
Corey Braun, R-Jr., P, South Florida
Braun earned the win against Memphis on Friday, allowing one run on four hits in 7.1 innings with no walks and six strikeouts.
 
Sebastian Greico, Sr., 1B, South Florida
Greico aided the Bulls to a 3-1 week, including a series win at Memphis, by hitting .556 (10-18) with nine runs scored, two doubles, three home runs and five RBI.
 
Hugh Pinkney, Jr., C/1B, Tulane
Pinkney hit .389 (7-18) with six runs scored, one double, one home run and eight RBI as the Green Wave went 4-1 last week, including a sweep over Rice.
