Three standout quarterbacks from the American have been named to the 2025 Maxwell Award preseason watch list. The Maxwell Award is presented annuall to the outstanding player in college football.
Navy quarterback Blake Horvath was chosen on the heels of a 2024 season in which he rushed for 1,246 yards (18th nationally, second among FBS quarterbacks) and 17 touchdowns and passed for 1,353 yards and 13 touchdowns against four interceptions.
Florida Atlantic quarterback Caden Veltkamp earned the nod after transferring from Western Kentucky, where was the 2024 Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year. Veltkamp passed for 3,108 yards and 25 touchdowns and added seven rushing TDs for the Hilltoppers last year.
UTSA quarterback Owen McCown was named to the watch list after he started all 13 games and passed for 3,424 yards and 25 touchdowns for the Roadrunners. McCown's best performance was a 434-yard, four-touchdown performance against Tulsa.
