ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Braxton Woodson ran for 180 yards and two long touchdowns in the second half, and Navy piled up 464 rushing yards in a 52-7 rout of VMI on Saturday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Woodson broke free for scoring runs of 74 and 68 yards, part of a dominant ground game that saw six different Midshipmen reach the end zone. Alex Tecza added 89 yards and a touchdown, while Eli Heidenreich contributed 70 yards rushing, 65 receiving, and two total scores.

Quarterback Blake Horvath threw for 66 yards and a touchdown to Heidenreich, helping the Midshipmen (1-0) build a 28-0 halftime lead. Navy controlled the ball for more than 35 minutes and converted 10 of 13 third downs.

VMI (0-1) managed its lone highlight midway through the third quarter when Collin Shannon hit Owen Sweeney for a 75-yard touchdown strike. Shannon finished 16 of 25 for 197 yards but was sacked five times.

Navy’s defense held the Keydets to just 15 rushing yards on 22 carries. Linebacker Liam Robinson recorded two sacks, and the Midshipmen’s front seven combined for five.

Nathan Kirkwood added a 28-yard field goal in the third quarter and was perfect on seven PATs for Navy, which rolled up 556 total yards while limiting VMI to 212.
