CONWAY, S.C. — Katin Houser threw two touchdown passes to Yannick Smith and East Carolina pitched a shutout, rolling past Coastal Carolina 38-0 on Saturday night at Brooks Stadium.
Houser completed 28 of 37 passes for 293 yards, including a 5-yard strike to Smith in the first quarter and another 4-yarder early in the fourth that broke the game open. Smith finished with four receptions for 25 yards and both scores, while Anthony Smith hauled in 11 passes for 136 yards to lead the Pirates’ passing attack .
East Carolina (2-1) dominated on both sides of the ball, outgaining the Chanticleers 497-239 and forcing five turnovers, including three fumbles and two interceptions. The Pirates also registered five sacks and nine tackles for loss. Malik Wright Jr., Parker Jenkins, and Tyler Engleman Jr. added rushing touchdowns as ECU piled up 204 yards on the ground .
Coastal Carolina (1-2) managed just 67 rushing yards and was held without a point despite reaching the red zone once. Quarterback Tad Hudson threw for 172 yards but was intercepted twice and sacked five times.
Nick Mazzie added a 36-yard field goal late in the first quarter as the Pirates recorded their first road shutout since 2010.
