09.20.25

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Caleb Hawkins scored his fourth rushing touchdown in overtime to lift North Texas past Army 45-38 on Saturday at Michie Stadium, keeping the Mean Green unbeaten.

Hawkins powered in from three yards out on the opening possession of overtime after the Black Knights had tied it at the end of regulation with Dawson Jones’ 23-yard field goal. Hawkins finished with 99 yards on 13 carries to pace a North Texas ground game that produced 229 yards. Makenzie McGill II added 101 yards and a score.

North Texas (4-0, 1-0 American) surged to a 21-0 first-quarter lead after forcing two early fumbles, both of which set up short-field touchdowns. Drew Mestemaker went 26 of 36 for 249 yards and a touchdown, with Miles Coleman hauling in eight passes for 74 yards.

Army (1-2, 0-1) stormed back behind its triple-option attack, piling up 387 rushing yards. Briggs Bartosh ripped off a 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, Hayden Reed ran for 113 yards, and quarterback Dewayne Coleman accounted for 218 total yards with two passing touchdowns, including a 68-yarder to Brady Anderson late in the fourth quarter.

The Black Knights forced overtime when Jones capped a 14-play, 50-yard drive with his kick in the final seconds. But Hawkins and the Mean Green answered immediately in the extra session to secure the win.

North Texas turned three Black Knights turnovers into 21 points.
