FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Robert Henry Jr., the nation’s leading rusher entering the weekend, ripped off touchdown plays of 76 and 74 yards as UTSA edged Colorado State 17-16 on Saturday night at Canvas Stadium.
Henry finished with 144 yards on 21 carries and added a 74-yard touchdown reception, accounting for both of the Roadrunners’ scores. His 76-yard burst up the middle midway through the second quarter gave UTSA (1-2) its first lead, and he turned a short pass from Owen McCown into a 74-yard sprint with 4:49 remaining to put the Roadrunners up 17-10 .
Colorado State (1-1) answered with Jackson Brousseau’s 4-yard touchdown pass to Rocky Beers with 29 seconds left, but the Rams’ two-point conversion pass failed. Colorado State initially kicked the tying PAT, but took the point off the board after a UTSA penalty.
McCown went 14 of 27 for 173 yards and the one long touchdown to Henry, while the UTSA defense came up with three sacks, led by Nnanna Anyanwu’s 3.0 for 19 yards lost .
Colorado State outgained UTSA 407-345 behind Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi’s 176 passing yards and Brousseau’s 78-yard, one-touchdown relief stint. Lloyd Avant added 96 rushing yards for the Rams, who settled for a 23-yard field goal in the second quarter and came up short on the final play .
