BOCA RATON, Fla. — Greg Desrosiers Jr. ran for 204 yards and three touchdowns, Brendon Lewis accounted for four scores, and Memphis pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Florida Atlantic 55-26 on Saturday night.
The Tigers (5-0, 1-0 American) notched their ninth consecutive victory, the longest active winning streak in the FBS. Memphis also scored at least 20 points for the 45th straight game, extending the nation’s longest current streak in that category .
Lewis set the tone early with an 18-yard touchdown run on Memphis’ opening drive, then added another rushing score late to cap the victory. He finished with 196 yards passing and two touchdown throws to Cortez Braham Jr., who had six catches for 127 yards. Lewis also ran for 60 yards and two more scores .
Desrosiers delivered the game’s biggest highlight with a 90-yard touchdown sprint midway through the third quarter that pushed the Tigers ahead 24-16. He averaged more than 10 yards per carry on 19 attempts.
After Florida Atlantic (1-3, 0-1 American) pulled within 31-26 early in the fourth, Memphis erupted for 24 unanswered points in the final 10 minutes. Lewis and Braham connected on a 73-yard strike, Gianni Spetic added a 25-yard field goal, and Desrosiers plunged in from a yard out before Lewis capped the surge with a 15-yard run.
Caden Veltkamp threw for 318 yards for the Owls, who got rushing touchdowns from Veltkamp, Jayshon Platt and Xavier Terrell. Easton Messer caught nine passes for 131 yards, and Platt added 101 yards receiving, but FAU was outgained 487-397 and turned the ball over twice .
Memphis’ defense stiffened when it mattered most, stopping Florida Atlantic three times on fourth down and forcing four fumbles, including one recovery by Jayden Flaker. DeMarco Ward led the Tigers with nine tackles and a forced fumble.
