UTSA Falls Short Against Texas State, 43-36

SAN ANTONIO — Beau Sparks hauled in a 65-yard touchdown pass from Brad Jackson midway through the fourth quarter, and Texas State held off UTSA 43-36 on Saturday at the Alamodome, snapping the Roadrunners’ 10-game home winning streak.

Sparks finished with 155 yards on five receptions, including the decisive score just 14 seconds after UTSA had tied the game on Robert Henry’s 30-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion. Jackson passed for 286 yards and a touchdown and added two short scoring runs, while Lincoln Pare and Jaydon Jenkins each had rushing touchdowns for the Bobcats (2-0).

UTSA (0-2) piled up 497 total yards, led by Henry’s 159 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns and a 4-yard touchdown catch from Owen McCown. McCown completed 23 of 43 passes for 219 yards with two scores.

Texas State trailed briefly in the third quarter but regained the lead on Jenkins’ 17-yard run and Tyler Robles’ 38-yard field goal. Jackson’s 6-yard touchdown in the fourth put the Bobcats up 36-28 before Henry’s tying run.

The Roadrunners had one last chance, but turned it over on downs near midfield with 1:28 left. Texas State outgained UTSA 454-497 but averaged nearly seven yards per play and converted 5 of 5 red-zone trips.

Defensively, Shad Banks Jr. had an interception for UTSA, while Ryan Nolan led the Bobcats with 11 tackles.
