Florida Atlantic Delivers Kittley's First Career Win, 56-14, Against Florida A&M

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Caden Veltkamp threw five touchdown passes and Florida Atlantic delivered Zach Kittley his first career head coaching win with a 56-14 rout of Florida A&M on Saturday night at Flagler Credit Union Stadium.

Veltkamp completed 27 of 39 passes for 309 yards without an interception, connecting twice each with Asaad Waseem and Dom Henry and once with Jayshon Platt. His 24-yard strike to Henry on FAU’s opening drive set the tone, and the Owls (1-1) scored the game’s first 39 points by halftime.

Lawrence Johnson added a 0-yard punt return touchdown in the first quarter, while Garrison Smith booted field goals from 29 and 48 yards. Running back Kaden Shields-Dutton capped the scoring with a 1-yard plunge in the fourth quarter.

Gemari Sands rushed for 83 yards, and Easton Messer led Florida Atlantic with 62 receiving yards. The Owls finished with 553 total yards and went 6-for-6 in the red zone while averaging seven yards per play.

Florida A&M (0-2) got on the board with a 27-yard touchdown pass from RJ Johnson III to Jamar Taylor in the third quarter and a 65-yard strike to Jordan Edwards in the fourth. Johnson threw for 222 yards, but the Rattlers were limited to 69 rushing yards.

Florida Atlantic's defense recorded two sacks, four tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. Leon Hart Jr. had a sack that resulted in a 32-yard loss, and Tyler Stolsky added a pass breakup and two tackles.
