IRVING, Texas – The American Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly football honors from Week 2 of the 2025 season.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Byrum Brown • Sr. • QB • South Florida
Brown finished with 329 yards of total offense – the most of any player in the American in Week 2 – to lead South Florida to an 18-16 win at No. 13 Florida for the Bulls’ second consecutive win against a top-25 opponent. He completed 23 of 36 passes for 263 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 66 yards on 17 carries. Brown engineered an eight-play, 87-yard game-winning drive as he moved the Bulls from their own 11 to the Gator 2-yard line to set up the game-winning field goal as time expired.

 

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Collin Matteson • Sr. • S • Army
Matteson led an Army defense that limited Kansas State to 246 yards of offense and 13 first downs in the Black Knights’ 24-21 road win. Matteson finished with five tackles and came away with three pass breakups and the decisive interception on Kansas State’s final drive to clinch the win.

 

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nico Gramatica • So. • K • South Florida
Gramatica scored 10 points on three field goals and a PAT, including the walk-off field goal as time expired, in South Florida’s 18-16 win at No. 13 Florida in front of a crowd of 89,909 in Gainesville. Two of his three field goals either tied the game or gave the Bulls the lead, while his 20-yard kick at the end of the fourth quarter gave South Florida its second consecutive win against a top-25 team. 

 
 
HONORABLE MENTION
Cale Hellums • Jr. • QB • Army
Rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns on 41 carries and completed 7 of 11 passes for 43 yards and a TD in a 24-21 win at Kansas State in his first career start.
 
Blake Horvath • Sr. • QB • Navy
Rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries and completed 6 of 9 passes for 168 yards and a TD in a 38-24 win against UAB.
 
Makenzie McGill II • So. • RB • North Texas
Rushed for 102 yards on 16 carries, including the game-winning touchdown in overtime, in a 33-30 win at Western Michigan
 
Mac Harris • Gr. • LB • South Florida
Registered 10 tackles with a sack in an 18-16 win at No. 13 Florida, leading a defense that limited the Gators to one touchdown.
 
Robert Henry • Sr. • RB • UTSA
Rushed for 159 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns and added a receiving TD in a 43-36 loss to Texas State, turning in his fourth consecutive 100-yard game.
