IRVING, Texas – The American Conference has announced the weekly men’s basketball honors for the 12
th week of the regular season.
Player of the Week
Izaiyah Nelson, Sr., F, South Florida
Nelson recorded a pair of double-doubles in two conference wins and averaged 15.5 points and 11.0 rebounds. The senior recorded 16 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in a road win at UAB and followed that with 15 points and 12 rebounds as the Bulls cut Florida Atlantic’s lead in the American standings to a half game.
Freshman of the Week
Jaylen Lawal, G, Tulsa
Lawal aided the Golden Hurricane to two conference wins by averaging 9.5 points. The freshman guard dropped 17 points in Tulsa’s 6-point win over Rice that kept the Golden Hurricane in second place in the American’s standings.
Honorable Mention
Dezayne Mingo, Sr., G, Charlotte
Dropped 20 points, four rebounds and four assists in the 49ers’ win over Tulane.
Giovanni Emejuru, Sr., C, East Carolina
Averaged a double-double with 10.5 points and 13.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week, including the Pirates’ first conference win of the season over North Texas.
Derrian Ford, Sr., G, Temple
Helped lead Owls to conference wins over Rice and UTSA by averaging 18.0 points and 5.0 rebounds.
Miles Barnstable, Sr., G, Tulsa
Averaged 19.0 points and 3.5 rebounds as the Golden Hurricane defeated Memphis and Rice.
Kenyon Giles, Sr., G, Wichita State
Aided Shockers to league wins over East Carolina and Memphis by averaging 20.5 points and 3.0 assists.
