East Carolina, South Florida, Temple Earn Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Conference has announced the weekly men’s basketball honors for the first week of the regular season.
 
Attack Player of the Week
Elise Grissett, Senior, South Florida
Grissett led the Bulls to a season-opening win over Niagara with six goals on nine shots, including the first two goals of the game. The senior also added five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers in the Bulls’ 20-5 win.
 
Midfielder of the Week
Sabrina Martin, Senior, Temple
Martin helped lead the Owls to a 12-10 come-from-behind victory over Delaware with four goals, four ground balls, six caused turnovers and two draw controls.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Emma Magazu, Graduate Student, East Carolina
Magazu picked up six ground balls and caused two turnovers while leading the Pirate defense into only allowing 12 shots on goal in a 15-4 season-opening win over Queens.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Riley Horoshko, Senior, Temple
Horoshko entered the game in net for the Owls trailing Delaware 8-3, but helped aide the comeback by only allowing two goals while making six saves in a 12-10 season-opening victory.
 
Freshman of the Week
Brooke Mazzei, M, Temple
Mazzei gave Temple its first lead of the game in a 12-10 come-from-behind win over Delaware. The freshman also collected three ground balls, two caused turnovers and one draw control.
 
Honorable Mention
Jaime Behar, Senior, Goalkeeper, East Carolina
Recorded eight saves and a 66.7 percent save percentage with only four goals allowed in a 15-4 win over Queens.
 
Kayla Wilkes, Senior, Midfielder, East Carolina
Stuffed the stat sheet with two goals, two assists, four caused turnovers and four draw controls in the win over Queens.
 
Kaitlyn Carney, Junior, Attack, James Madison
Scored five goals against No. 1 North Carolina in the Dukes’ season opener.
 
Natalie Calandra-Ryan, Graduate Student, Attack, Old Dominion
Tallied four goals on six shots as the Monarchs defeated Youngstown State, 14-12, to open the season.
 
Lexi Culp, Senior, Attack, Temple
Tallied three goals and two assists, including two scores and an assist in the fourth quarter, of the comeback win over Delaware.
