WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita State Shockers downed Wyoming 74-70 in the opening round of the National Invitation Tournament.
The Shockers (23-11), the No. 3 seed in the Tulsa region, advance to the second round and will play at Oklahoma State March 22 at 8:30 ET on ESPN2.
It is the seventh consecutive season (not including 2020 covid season) that an American Conference team has won an NIT game.
T.J Williams came off the bench to post his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Kenyon Giles scored 15 points, and Emmanuel Okorafor was just shy of a double-double, tallying nine points and 12 rebounds.
The Shockers were dominant on the glass, outrebounding Wyoming 55-34. Wichita State led for the majority of the game, taking its largest lead at 38-28 with just under 17 minutes to play in the contest.
