Rice's Hayes, Tulsa's Toman Earn Weekly Women's Basketball Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, March 1.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Shelby Hayes, Sr., C, Rice
Hayes averaged 19.5 points and four rebounds in wins over Temple and Tulsa to help secure the No. 1 overall seed in the American Conference Championship next week, along with an outright regular season championship.  She shot 67 percent from the floor in the wins.
 
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Dora Toman, Fr., G, Tulsa
Doman averaged 12 points and 4.5 rebounds in games against Rice and Tulane. In the win against Tulane, she finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.
 
HONORABLE MENTION
Princess Anderson, Sr., G, Charlotte
Anderson had a pair of 20-point performances for the 49ers, including scoring 23 points against East Carolina.
 
Daejah Richmond, Jr., G, Memphis
Richmond averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 steals, 5 assists and 4.5 rebounds in a pair of games for the Tigers.
 
Edyn Battle, Gr., G, South Florida
Battle led the Bulls to a win over North Texas, scoring 19 points and coming down with three rebounds.
 
Kaylah Turner, Jr., G, Temple
Turner scored 26 points in a road win at UAB, while dishing out five assists and adding three steals defensively.
 
Abby Cater, Gr., G, Wichita State
Cater recorded an 18-point, 10 rebound double-double in the Shockers’ road win over UAB.
