STORRS, Conn. — Despite a strong second-half push, UTSA saw its season come to an end Saturday with a 90–52 loss to top-seeded UConn in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion.
UTSA (18-16) was paced by a balanced offensive effort, with Damara Allen and Ereauna Hardaway each scoring 11 points. Cheyenne Rowe added 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while the Roadrunners showed resilience after a slow start, outscoring UConn 38–31 in the second half.
The Roadrunners struggled to find rhythm early, shooting just 25 percent in the first quarter as UConn built a 19–6 lead. The Huskies extended that margin with a dominant second quarter, outscoring UTSA 29–8 to take a 48–14 advantage into halftime.
UTSA responded with its most productive stretch after the break, shooting 45.5 percent in the third quarter and 56.3 percent in the fourth. Allen knocked down three 3-pointers, and the Roadrunners generated more consistent offense in transition and in the half court, finishing with 22 points in the final period.
UConn (35-0) was led by Sarah Strong’s 18 points, while Ashlynn Shade added 14 and Blanca Quiñonez contributed 15 off the bench. The Huskies capitalized on UTSA turnovers, scoring 35 points off miscues and holding a 48–18 advantage in points in the paint.
