But Memphis' defense couldn't slow down Boise State's Dylan Riley, who ran for 206 yards, or stop the Broncos' Cam Bates, whose 72-yard punt return touchdown in the third quarter swung momentum for good. Maddux Madsen threw for 221 yards and a score and added a rushing touchdown for Boise State (1-1).
Memphis (2-1) was held to just 1-of-8 on third down and lost the time-of-possession battle, 39:56 to 20:04.
