49ers’ Furious Fourth-Quarter Rally Falls Short at App State, 26-21

BOONE, N.C. — Malachi Singleton threw two second-half touchdown passes to propel Appalachian State to a 26-21 victory over Charlotte at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Singleton finished with 331 passing yards, targeting Chris Lofton and Jackson Grier for touchdowns that built a 26-7 fourth-quarter lead.

Charlotte (0-3) staged a late comeback behind a 1-yard touchdown run by Khamani Alexander and a 36-yard interception return touchdown by Collin Gill with 1:58 remaining. However, Appalachian State (3-0) recovered the subsequent onside kick to seal the win.

App State outgained Charlotte 435 to 247 in total yards.
