FRESNO, Calif. — Rayshon Luke rushed for 167 yards and a touchdown, including a game-clinching 52-yard score in the fourth quarter, as Fresno State pulled away for a 38-24 victory over Rice on Saturday night at Valley Children's Stadium.

Jayden Mandal passed for 210 yards and three touchdowns for Fresno State (3-1), which scored 24 second-half points to erase a halftime deficit and secure its second home win of the season.

Rice (1-3) seized early momentum when Ben Grice ripped off an 88-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Grice finished with 109 yards on seven carries, while quarterback Jacurri Brown added 141 rushing yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Brown also threw a touchdown pass but threw one interception and lost a fumble.

The Owls led 17-14 at halftime after an Enock Gota field goal late in the second quarter.

Fresno State dominated the third quarter to take control. Mandal threw touchdown passes to Jahlil McClain and Ezekiel Avit, giving the Bulldogs a 24-17 advantage entering the final period. Julius Gillick added a short touchdown run in the fourth quarter before Luke sealed the win with his 52-yard burst down the sideline with 7:37 remaining.

Mandal finished 17-of-31 passing, connecting with Josiah Freeman six times for 66 yards and a touchdown. The Bulldogs produced 459 total yards and didn't commit a turnover.

Rice racked up 344 yards on the ground but was hindered by two second-half turnovers and failed to slow down Fresno State's big plays down the stretch.
