Patrick Colbert was promoted to assistant commissioner of sport administration & basketball operations for the American Athletic Conference in July of 2020. He originally joined the conference's sport administration and championships staff in 2012.

Colbert is the primary sport administrator at The American for men’s soccer, swimming and diving, tennis, women’s lacrosse and softball. He also serves on the leadership team charged with managing and operating the annual men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.

Colbert's duties with the conference including oversight and management of select postseason tournament operations, execution and creation of regular season schedules, implementation and execution of regular season and championship policies and procedures and is the lead liaison with head coaches, administrators and officials assignors for those select sports. Additionally, Colbert has oversight of the Conference’s licensing and merchandising partnerships.

Before joining The American, Colbert served in a number of capacities at the Eastern College Athletic Conference, most recently directing preseason and postseason events for Division I, II and III institutions. He joined the ECAC staff in 2008 as a marketing assistant, was named coordinator of operations and officiating in 2009 and was elevated to director of special events in 2011.

Colbert earned a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science in 2008 from Colby-Sawyer College, where he was a four-year starter as a soccer player. He added a master's degree in sports leadership from Northeastern University in 2013.
