2017-18 American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Composite Schedule (Conference Only)
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference announced its 2017-18 men’s basketball schedule which includes more than 150 national television broadcasts.
Ninety-seven conference games will be nationally televised by industry leaders ESPN and CBS Sports. Twenty-one conference games will be carried either on ESPN or ESPN2, with Thursday evenings on ESPN highlighting The American throughout the season. Twenty-three additional games will be seen on ESPNU, with 26 scheduled for ESPNEWS. CBS Sports will televise two conference games – Wichita State’s American Athletic Conference debut on Dec. 30 at UConn and the regular-season finale between Cincinnati and Wichita State on March 4 – while CBS Sports Network will carry 25 conference games.
Conference play begins Wednesday, Dec. 27 as defending conference champion SMU welcomes UCF to Moody Coliseum before a national audience on ESPN2. Three American Athletic Conference games will follow on Thursday, Dec. 28.
SMU and Cincinnati, the finalists in last year’s American Athletic Conference championship, will square off on Sunday, Jan. 7, and Sunday, Feb. 11, with games airing on ESPN2 and ESPN, respectively.
The American also announced select non-conference games with additional telecasts to be added in the future.
The American’s national TV slate opens on Nov. 10 with Memphis meeting Alabama in the Veteran’s Classic in Annapolis, Md., on CBS Sports Network. The schedule expands the following two weeks as Tulsa (Puerto Rico Tip-Off), Temple (Charleston Classic), Wichita State (Maui Invitational), UCF (AdvoCare Invitational), UConn (Phil Knight Invitational) and SMU (Battle 4 Atlantis) all enter tournament play.
Key non-conference home games for American teams include SMU taking on USC (Dec. 2, ESPNU), Houston meeting Arkansas (Dec. 2, CBSSN), Temple hosting Wisconsin (Dec. 7, ESPNU) and Villanova (Dec. 13, ESPN2), Cincinnati welcoming Mississippi State (Dec. 12, ESPN2), Wichita State meeting Oklahoma (Dec. 16, ESPN2), and UConn hosting Villanova (Jan. 20, CBS).
Among the conference’s neutral site matchups are three games at Madison Square Garden: Temple versus South Carolina (Nov. 30), UConn versus Syracuse (Dec. 5, ESPN), and Memphis versus Louisville (Dec. 16, ESPN2). Additionally, Dec. 9 will see Cincinnati will meet Florida at the Prudential Center and Tulsa takes on Kansas State at Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita. Tulane faces Florida State at Amalie Arena on Dec. 10 (ESPNU), while Houston meets Providence on Dec. 20 at Mohegan Sun Arena (ESPNU).
All of the games included in the ESPN package will be available through WatchESPN, accessible on computers, smartphones, tablets and connected devices to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider. Each of the CBS Sports games will be available to stream live in markets across the U.S. via the CBS All Access subscription service, with additional coverage on CBSSports.com and the CBS Sports app.
The 2017-18 conference schedule sees each team in The American play 18 games. Each team will play seven opponents twice and four opponents once. This year will mark the first for Wichita State as a member of the American Athletic Conference.
The 2018 American Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Championship will take place March 8-11 at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. ESPN networks will provide live coverage of the first two days of the championship, with CBS Sports carrying the semifinals and championship game.
