With 17 days left before the 2018 baseball season opener, American Athletic Conference teams continue to be recognized in preseason media rankings and All-America selections.
Houston was listed at No. 30 in the
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, while six other teams were receiving votes in the organization’s poll. Houston’s Trey Cumbie—this year’s conference Preseason Pitcher of the Year—along with UCF’s Bryce Tucker and Wichita State’s Greyson Jenista and Alec Bohm each earned a spot on the
Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s 2018
Preseason All-America list. Bohm and Jenista were additionally first team
Preseason All-America selctions for
Baseball America.
UCF was tabbed at No. 22 on
Baseball America’s top 25 preseason rankings, while three American Athletic Conference players were
D1Baseball.com Preseason All-America selections. The list included Jenista (third team), UConn pitcher Tim Cate (second team) and USF pitcher Shane McClanahan (third team). Houston came in at No. 24 on
D1Baseball.com’s national poll. McClanahan (first team) and Cate (second team) also earned spots on
Baseball America's Preseason All-America list.
The 2018 baseball season opens on Feb. 16 with all nine American teams in action, while conference play begins on March 23.
