PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Nine American Athletic Conference cross country programs will continue their 2018 seasons, competing in eight meets over the weekend. The conference has seen 10 teams and 10 individuals capture titles this year.

Temple hosted a meet on opening weekend, as both the men’s and women’s teams placed first at Belmont Plateau. Louis Corgliano won the men’s 8K race at 26:56.9, while Millie Howard crossed the finish line first for the women at 23:30.00 in the 6K meet. The Owls’ women’s team ranks No. 10 in the Mid-Atlantic Region, while the men are listed at No. 7. Both teams will head to the Army Invitational on Friday, Sep. 14 this weekend.
The UConn women will join Temple in competing on Friday, as the Huskies prepare for a trip to Buffalo, N.Y., at the Buffalo Stampede Invitational. UConn had 11 top-25 individual finishers in the UMass Minuteman Invitational to begin its season on Sep. 8. The Huskies won the 5K event with its top-five runners combining to total 33 points. The UConn women rank No. 12 in the Northeast Region.
Memphis is back in action on Saturday, Sep. 15, and will stay in town for the Rhodes College Invitational. The Tigers’ men’s squad returned to the USTFCCCA’s regional rankings for the first time since 2014, coming in at No. 11 in the South Region. Memphis kicked off its 2018 campaign with a first-place finish at the Sept. 1 Brooks Twilight Classic. It was Memphis' first team title in its 13 years of competing in the race, as Matthew Kamph paced the team with a second-place finish.
UCF will host the UCF Knights Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning for its sole home race of the season. Last time out, UCF earned third place overall as a squad at the FAU Invitational. Four Knights finished in the top 20 of the 5K race, with nearly every returning Knight posting an improved time.
Wichita State and Tulsa will travel to Joplin, Mo., for the Missouri Southern Stampede on Saturday. In their opening meet two weeks ago, Rebekah Topham led Wichita State to a team title, winning her fourth consecutive individual title. The Shocker men placed second with 30 points. The women are listed No. 13, while the men are No. 14 in the Midwest Region. In his first collegiate race, redshirt freshman Isaac Akers led the Tulsa to a first-place finish with a first-place four-mile time of 20:12 at the Hurricane Invitational. Reagan Hausmann paced the Golden Hurricane women's squad with a fourth-place finish in the two-mile race. Tulsa’s men’s team is No. 6 in the Midwest Region, while the women rank No. 12.
Cincinnati will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the John McNichols Invitational on Saturday. Andrew Schille shined for the Bearcats, winning the Queen City Invitational for a third-straight year to open the season. He became the first Cincinnati runner (male or female) to win a cross country race since 2011, and the first from his school to collect an American Athletic Conference weekly award.
Tulane had a tremendous start to their season with the men and women taking first place and having individual winners at the Nicholls Cross Country Invitational on Sep. 1. Two juniors shined for Tulane as Mckenzie Melius and Carlos Zervigon were the Green Wave's individual winners. The Green Wave will look to carry the momentum into this weekend when it heads to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU Invitational.
Hannah Miller is building off her success from last season after earning the first conference Female Athlete of the Week honor and breaking SMU’s 4K record by 24 seconds. She placed first at the Bear Twilight Invitational, clocking 13:18.7 on opening weekend. SMU has received votes in the past two USTFCCCA polls and will compete at the Ken Garland Invitational in Denton, Texas, this weekend.
