Cumberland Named to Lute Olson Award Mid-Season Watch List

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Cincinnati junior Jarron Cumberland has been named to the Lute Olson Award Mid-Season Watch List.

The award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I player in college basketball.

Lute Olson won 780 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were spent at the University of Arizona. During that stretch, he led the Wildcats to 11 Pac-10 Conference titles, 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments, four Final Four appearances and a National Championship in 1997.

Cumberland is averaging 16.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals for the Bearcats (12-3 overall, 1-1 American Athletic Conference).

The Wilmington, Ohio, native ranks among The American leaders in 3-point percentage (1st - 46.8), 3-pointers made (6th - 2.5), points (6th - 16.7), free throw percentage (8th - 80.0), steals (13th - 1.3) and assist-to-turnover ratio (14th - 1.3).

Cumberland has put up 20 or more points six times this season and reached double figures in scoring in all but one game. He matched his career high with 27 points against Western Michigan (Nov. 19, 2018) and recorded 25 points against both Ole Miss (Nov. 24, 2018) and UCLA (Dec. 19, 2018).

A two-time AAC Player of the Week selection in 2018-19, Cumberland was selected as a preseason first team all-conference selection by league coaches and was tabbed to the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year preseason watch list.

The 2019 Lute Olson Award will be presented at the College Insider awards event in April at the site of the men's Division I national championship in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
