PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league's weekly men's basketball honors for the 10th week of the college basketball season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nate Pierre-Louis - Temple - So. - G - Plainfield, N.J.
Pierre-Louis led the Owls to a 2-0 week with wins over then No.17/15 Houston and against USF in overtime. The sophomore averaged 20 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks. He scored 18 points (4-of-8 FG, 9-of-10 FTs) with four rebounds as Temple handed the Cougars their first loss of the season. Pierre-Louis followed that with a game-high 22 points (6-of-10, 8-of-8 FTs) in 82-80 overtime win versus USF. He scored six of his season-high 22 points in the OT period as well as two of his career-high three blocks.
FRESHMEN OF THE WEEK
Jayden Gardner - ECU - F - Wake Forest, N.C.
Gardner averaged 26.5 points, 14.0 rebounds and shot 54.3-percent from the field las week. He recorded his seventh double-double of the year with an American Athletic Conference freshman record 35 points against UCF. He is now one of 11 players in league history to score 35 points in a game. Gardner also became the first freshman in The American to grab 20 rebounds in a game as it was just the third 20-rebound game in conference history. He is the first player in conference history to record a double-double with 30 points and 20 rebounds and became the fourth player in conference history to have three 30-point games in a season.
Alexis Yetna - USF - F - Paris, France
Yetna and Gardner are now three-time American Athletic Conference Freshmen of the Week with their latest honors. The redshirt-freshman averaged 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and shot 57.1-percent from the field in a win over Tulane and an overtime loss at Temple. He double-doubled with 15 points and 11 rebounds and added a career-high three 3-pointers against the Green Wave. Yetna scored a career-high 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds in a two-point, overtime loss at Temple. He collected his league-leading ninth double-double of the season and his third in a row at Temple and shot 71.4 percent (10-of-14) against the Owls.
HONOR ROLL
Jalen Adams - UConn - Sr. - G
Averaged 18.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in a victory over 3-1 SMU and overtime loss at Cincinnati. Shot 57.1-percent from the field, 55.6-percent from distance and was 8-of-9 from the foul line.
Jarron Cumberland - Cincinnati - Jr. - G
Averaged 18.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in a pair of overtime victories. Accounted for 11 of Cincinnati's 12 overtime points at Tulsa. Scored a game-high 22 points, went 11-of-12 at the line and dished seven assists against UConn.
Kyvon Davenport - Memphis - Sr. - F
Led Memphis to a 2-0 week and a tie for second in the standings at 3-1 in American play. Had a double-double in a win over ECU with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Had 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting in win over Tulane.
Laquincy Rideau - USF - RS-Jr. - G
Had a triple-double on 18 points, 10 assists and 10 steals in an OT loss at Temple. First USF triple-double in 13 years and sixth NCAA triple-double on points-assists-steals in the past 20 seasons.
Jimmy Whitt, Jr. - SMU - Jr. - G
Had double-doubles in both games of a 1-1 week for the Mustangs. 10 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and a steal in win over Tulsa and 20 points, 10 rebounds and three steals in a road loss at UConn.
