PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A pair of student-athletes representing the American Athletic Conference were tabbed as at-large 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America selections, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Friday (June 19).
SMU junior men’s golfer Mac Meissner and Houston senior women’s swimmer Peyton Kondis each earned CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team honors. Both Meissner and Kondis were named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans for the first time in their respective careers.
Meissner, a two-time All-America (2018 and 2019) choice, led SMU with a program record 70.44 stroke average over 18 rounds played this season on his way to being recognized as SMU’s Male Student-Athlete of the Year. Named the American Men’s Golfer of the Week on March 4, Meissner logged four total top-five finishes over his six official starts in 2019-20. He has logged a 4.00 GPA as a finance major at SMU.
Kondis was named the 2020 American Co-Women’s Swimmer of the Year after winning the 100 and 200 breaststroke events and placing second in the 200 IM at the conference championship meet in March. She was twice named the American Women’s Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 5 and Nov. 26 of this past season and qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships prior to the event’s cancellation due to COVID-19. Kondis posted a 3.97 GPA at Houston while majoring in kinesiology/health sciences.
