UCF, Memphis Pick Up League Wins Saturday

In American Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Saturday, Feb. 6, UCF and Memphis picked up league wins, while No. 5 Houston won a non-conference contest.

Memphis 66, East Carolina 59 - Box Score

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Alex Lomax tallied 10 points and 10 assists to carry Memphis to a 66-59 win over East Carolina on Saturday.

Landers Nolley II had 12 points for Memphis (12-6, 8-3 American Athletic Conference), which earned its sixth consecutive home victory. D.J. Jeffries added 12 points. DeAndre Williams had eight rebounds.

Jayden Gardner had 23 points and nine rebounds for the Pirates (8-7, 2-7), who were coming off an upset of No. 5 Houston on Wednesday night. It was their first win over a ranked team in almost two decades and the highest-ranked team they ever beat. Brandon Suggs added 10 points.

Memphis defeated East Carolina 80-53 on Jan. 24.

UCF 65, Tulsa 58 - Box Score

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Darius Perry scored 18 points with five 3-pointers and Brandon Mahan posted 15 points, all from behind the arc, as UCF topped Tulsa 65-58 on Saturday.

Perry and Mahan made 10 of UCF’s (5-9, 3-8 American Athletic Conference) 13 3-pointers as the Knights did more than half their shooting from distance, 22 of 53 overall, 13 of 28 from deep.

Elijah Joiner had 14 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Golden Hurricane (9-8, 6-6). Darien Jackson added 12 points. Keyshawn Embery-Simpson had 10 points.

Tulsa trailed by double digits most of the second half, but came as close as 57-56 on a Jackson layup with 2:31 remaining. Perry made a free throw, Mahan buried a 3 and UCF won going away.

No. 5 Houston 112, Our Lady of the Lake 46 - Box Score

HOUSTON (AP) – University of Houston sophomore guard Cameron Tyson and No. 5 Houston rebounded from their second loss with a runaway victory against an overmatched NAIA school.

Tyson made a school-record 10 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 32 points, and No. 5 Houston rolled to a 112-46 victory over Our Lady of the Lake on Saturday.

Coming off an 82-73 loss to East Carolina on Wednesday, the Cougars (16-2) left little doubt against the Saints, jumping out to a big lead by halftime.

Tyson, who scored 20 in the first half, beat his previous career high of 31 points against Tulane on Jan. 28.

Houston shot 55% from the field, including 15 of 31 on 3-pointers. Freshman guard Tramon Mark added 22 points, six rebounds and six assists, and sophomore guard Jamal Shead had 20 points, 11 assists, nine rebounds and eight steals.

The margin of victory was Houston's largest since a 131-62 win over Florida Tech in November 2005.

Jordan Embry scored nine points for OLLU (1-4), which shot 25% from the field. Ruben Monzon and Ethan White had eight points apiece.

Houston used a 39-4 run over a 12-minute stretch of the first half to take a 51-13 lead on a layup by Mark with four minutes remaining. Tyson had 15 points on five 3-pointers during the stretch.

Houston led 60-22 at the half. The Cougars shot 63% in the half, hitting 11 straight field goals at one point.
