NEW YORK – Houston guard Quentin Grimes was selected in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft Thursday night, July 29, inside the Barclays Center.
Grimes was selected No. 25 overall by the Los Angeles Clippers, who have a proposed trade with the New York Knicks. He is the 12
th Cougar to be selected in the first round and 44
th player from Houston to be drafted overall.
He is the sixth student-athlete from The American to be selected in the first round. Grimes was a consensus third-team All-American in 2020-21, was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was the league tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. In addition, he was a unanimous American Athletic Conference First Team selection.
Grimes was one of the five finalists for the Jerry West Award, presented to the nation’s top shooting guard by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and was named one of 10 Semifinalists for the Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy for Player of the Year. He was also named to the USBWA All-District VII Team and the NABC All-District 24 First Team.
