No. 1 Memphis Defeats No. 8 Tulsa, 4-2, in Quarterfinals of 2024 American Women’s Soccer Championship

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Florida – No. 1 seed Memphis fell behind early in the second half, but stormed back to defeat No. 8 seed Tulsa, 4-2, in the fourth quarterfinal of the 2024 American Women’s Soccer Championship Monday, November 4 at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
 
With the win, Memphis (12-1-4) will play No. 4 Rice in the semifinals on Thursday, November 7 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+. Tulsa concludes the season with a record of 7-9-4.
 
The Tigers took the lead in the 21st minute on a goal by Anna Hauer off assists from Elise Perron and Momo Nakao. The Golden Hurricane responded 14 minutes later when Kaleigh Hart curled a ball into the top corner off a rebound.
 
Tulsa struck early in the second half, as Hannah Chance laid a ball off for Leah Diaz, who fired in a shot from outside the box.
 
Memphis then scored twice in two minutes. In the 55th minute, Hauer’s shot was saved by Tulsa’s Tatum Sanders, but the rebound went right to Perron, who finished from close range. In the 57th minute, Ashley Henderson scored a header off a cross from Ai Kitagawa.
 
Nakao extended the lead in the 65th minute with a curling shot from outside the box.
 
Sanders made 11 saves for the Golden Hurricane, while Kaylie Bierman recorded three saves for Memphis.
