East Carolina, FIU, Rice, Tulane Earn Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly swimming and diving awards.
 
SWIMMING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Gwen Shahboz, Sophomore, Tulane
Shahboz won two individual events against conference foe Rice on Friday, November 1, including the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:18.48 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:04.09. The next day against Houston and LSU, she finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:13.84 and 400-yard individual medley in 4:19.03.
 
FRESHMAN SWIMMING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Ava Portello, Rice
Portello aided the Owls to a dual meet win against conference opponent Tulane on November 1 by winning the 100-yard freestyle in 51.16 and the 200 freestyle in 1:49.28. Both of those times rank second in The American this season.
 
DIVING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Frida Zuniga Guzman, Redshirt Junior, East Carolina
Zuniga Guzman won both springboard events against Richmond and Penn on November 1-2. The redshirt junior captured the 1-meter event with a total score of 290.75 points and claimed the 3-meter event with 300.30 total points.
 
FRESHMAN DIVING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Brooke Megdall, FIU
Medgall finished second on the 3-meter board with a score of 273.15 against SMU on October 26. She also finished fifth on 1-meter with 246.98 points.
