Tulsa Men Regain Crown; Tulane Women Capture Title at 2025 American Cross Country Championships

CONCORD, N.C. – The Tulsa men’s cross country team regained the title with a six-point victory over Tulane to claim their American Conference-record 11th championship, while the Tulane women’s team captured the team crown for the second time in three years.
 
Tulsa earned its 11th conference title with all five scorers finishing among the top 10. Shay McEvoy led the Golden Hurricane with a time of 23:32.4, finishing third overall. He was followed by Ben Brown in fifth (23:40.2), Luke Birdseye in seventh (23:52.3), Levi Rowan in ninth (23:55.4), and Charlie Krasnoff in 10th (23:56.7).
 
Wichita State’s Elkana Kipruto captured the individual championship with a time of 23:16.6, while Tulane’s Bernard Cheruiyot (23:25.6) and Silas Kiptanui (23:38.8) placed second and fourth, respectively. Other All-Conference honorees included Wichita State’s Kelvin Kipyego (6th, 23:47.0), Charlotte’s Bryce Anderson (11th, 23:57.8), Wichita State’s Adrian Diaz-Lopez (12th, 24:00.2), Tulane’s Tommy Rice (13th, 24:03.0), Charlotte’s Andrew Harding (14th, 24:03.7), and Tulane’s Rogerio Amaral (15th, 24:12.8).
 
On the women’s side, Tulane took home the team title with 36 points, marking the program’s second championship in the past three seasons. All five scorers finished in the top 15, led by Blezzin Kimutai, who placed second with a time of 20:16.3. Dorcas Naibei followed in fourth (20:36.0), with Haly Harper eighth (20:41.8), Petra Dos Santos ninth (20:42.3), and Janae Dean 13th (20:53.5).
 
Tulsa’s Evyn Humphrey earned the individual championship with a time of 20:04.1, while Wichita State freshman Mercy Jepkoech collected Freshman of the Year honors after placing 10th in 20:44.5.
 
Additional All-Conference finishers included Rice’s Oliwia Kopec (3rd, 20:31.4), Charlotte’s Ella White (5th, 20:36.2), Rice’s Alex Gobran (6th, 20:36.8), Charlotte’s Cali Coffin (7th, 20:37.6), Tulsa’s Kathryn Koonts (11th, 20:45.1), Wichita State’s Lucy Ndungu (12th, 20:48.5), Tulsa’s Sara Morefield (14th, 20:55.4), and East Carolina’s Abrielle Schweitzer (15th, 20:59.2).
 
Tulsa head coach Taylor Gulley and staff were named the American Men’s Coaching Staff of the Year, while Tulane head coach Adrian Myers and staff earned American Women’s Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
